Welcome to Form The Team!

Form The Team is a powerful tool for creating and managing football team lineups. Whether you're a coach, player, or fan, you can easily visualize different formations and customize your teams.

Quick Start Guide

  1. Choose Player Count: Select how many players you want in your lineup (5, 7, 9, or 11 players).
  2. Select Formation: Pick from available formations that match your player count.
  3. Customize Colors: Click the jersey icon to change team and goalkeeper colors.
  4. Edit Player Names: Click on players or use the controls panel to set custom names.
  5. Save Your Team: Go to the Teams page to save your lineup for future use.
💡 Tip: You can create both home and away team lineups by switching between teams in the controls panel.

What are Football Formations?

A formation describes how players are positioned on the field. It's typically written as numbers representing defenders-midfielders-forwards (e.g., 4-3-3 means 4 defenders, 3 midfielders, 3 forwards).

Formation Types by Player Count

11-Player Formations

  • 4-3-3: Balanced formation with attacking width
  • 4-4-2: Classic formation with strong midfield

9-Player Formations

  • 3-3-2: Balanced approach for smaller teams
  • 3-2-3: More attacking-minded setup

7-Player Formations

  • 2-3-1: Midfield-heavy formation
  • 2-2-2: Balanced across all areas

5-Player Formations

  • 2-1-1: Defensive approach
  • 1-2-1: Midfield-focused setup

🎨 Customization Options

Jersey Colors

Customize your team's appearance with different jersey colors:

  • Click the jersey icon (👕) to open the color picker
  • Choose between Team and Goalkeeper tabs
  • Select from preset colors or use a custom color
  • Choose between different jersey styles

Player Names

Personalize your lineup with custom player names:

  • Click directly on any player on the pitch
  • Use the player list in the controls panel
  • Names are automatically saved with your team

Team Selection

Create both home and away teams:

  • Use the Home/Away toggle in the controls
  • Each team can have different formations and colors
  • Switch between teams to compare lineups
💡 Tip: Different jersey colors help distinguish between home and away teams when comparing lineups.

👥 Managing Teams

Saving Teams

Keep your favorite lineups for future use:

  • Go to the Teams page
  • Click "Create New Team"
  • Give your team a memorable name
  • Your team will be saved with current formation and settings

Team Management

Organize and maintain your saved teams:

  • View Details: Click on any team card to see full details
  • Duplicate: Create copies of existing teams for variations
  • Delete: Remove teams you no longer need
  • Edit: Load teams back into the builder for modifications

Data Storage

Your teams are saved to your account and sync across devices:

  • Sign in for free to save teams to your account
  • Access your teams from any device you sign in on
  • The builder itself works without an account
  • Record match results and goal scorers alongside your teams
💡 Tip: Create multiple variations of the same formation with different player names for different match scenarios.
